Bonding out someone from Arapahoe County Jail

An inmate’s bond is set by the court, and is designed to assure an individual’s appearance at their court dates. Payment of the full bond amount is required to release an inmate from jail.

Bonds can be posted at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility 24 hours a day—they will accept certified bank checks or money orders for bond payments.

• Cash Bond: Requires the full amount of bond in cash, which the court may return once court appearances are completed.
• Property Bond: The equity in real property may be used to post a property bond. The Detention Facility does not handle real property bonds. They must be posted at the Arapahoe County Combined Court Clerk’s Office during regular business hours.
• Surety Bond: A surety bond may be posted via any state-licensed bond agent, who may require a co-signer and/or collateral to secure the bond. They typically charge a fee of 10% to 15% of the total bond amount.
• Personal Recognizance Bond: The judge may grant a personal recognizance (PR) bond. This is a signature bond involving no money or property as long as the individual appears at all future court dates.

The Arapahoe County Detention Facility charges a $10 non-refundable bond fee, payable in cash only, for each bond. Additional municipal and county bond fees may also apply. There is a $30 booking fee charged each time an individual goes to jail. Typically, this fee is also paid at the time of bonding.

Arapahoe County Jail Visiting Hours and Rules

The Arapahoe County Detention Facility uses GTL for video visitation. Click the following links for information on the benefits of video visits, how to create an account and conduct a visit, how to send a message, and how to place funds for your family and friends.

Inmate visits must be scheduled in advance. They are allowed on Wednesday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Visiting Rules

All visitors are required to register and schedule visits at least 48 hours before the date and time requested. No loitering is allowed in the visitation center, only pre-approved scheduled visitors may enter.

All visitors must check in 10 minutes before the scheduled visit, and anyone over the age of 18 must present a valid government issued photo I.D. Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

A maximum of two visitors are allowed per visit, and visitors are only allowed to visit once per day. Inmates may have a maximum of three scheduled on-site visits per week.

Visits are 30 minutes long. Late arrivals will be allowed the remainder of the scheduled visitation period; no time extensions.

Any person(s) using profane language, causing a disturbance, dressed inappropriately or offensively, or displaying any type of nudity will not be allowed to visit and will be required to vacate the premises.

Use of cell phones or other electronic equipment is prohibited. No food or beverages are allowed in the visitation booth.

All incoming mail is inspected. Inmates may receive up to 10, 4 x 6 inch photographs or 10 pages of computer-generated photographs, up to 8 x 10 inches in size, per envelope. Inmates may receive up to 10 pages of Internet material per envelope.

Non-legal envelopes over 8 inches by 10 inches, packages, boxes, books, magazines and other similar items that are considered parcels will not be accepted without pre-approval by the inmate through the Mail Clerk.

Censored/Rejected Mail

Mail and packages sent to an inmate at the Arapahoe County Jail will be censored and/or rejected if they contain inappropriate materials, including:

• Plans for criminal activity
• Instructions for the construction and/or manufacture of weapons, explosives or incendiary devices, drugs, drug paraphernalia or alcoholic beverages.
• Material that would disrupt the operation and/or safety of the Facility
• Any contraband, including: Polaroid photographs, stationary items (i.e., postage stamps, postcards, envelopes, blank paper), business cards, lottery tickets, heavy paper stock, laminated items, plastic or cardboard items, lipstick, glitter, stickers, perfumes/oils, ribbons, beads, string, chemicals, liquids, foreign substances, drawings or writings made with crayons, batteries, electronic devices, recorded musical cards, glue, etc.
• Food items.
• Sexually explicit photographs, articles, or materials depicting sexual activity or displaying male/female genitalia or breasts.
• Gang-related materials including gang graffiti, activity, or tagging.
  Items that contain credit card(s) and/or account numbers; bank account numbers, checks, deposit slips or any financial statement; Personal Identification Numbers or security codes for any financial transaction or device; Social Security card or number; driver’s license, passport, passport card, consulate card, tribal ID; birth or death certificates or mortuary documents; and/or real estate or property tax documents.

How to Call an Inmate at Arapahoe County Jail

Care Packages

Friends and family can place commissary orders for their inmate via the iCareGifts website.

Inmates are allowed one care package per week up to $75. Orders must be placed by midnight on Wednesday for delivery the following week.

Arapahoe County Jail Programs For Inmates

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility offers more than 75 programs to inmates on a weekly basis, which are staffed predominantly by volunteers.

Alcoholics Anonymous

AA meetings are offered to all inmates at the detention facility. Volunteers donate about one hour each week to conduct the meetings. The jail has a number of AA materials for the inmates that can be provided in both English and Spanish.

Domestic Violence Education

Domestic violence classes help inmates understand the cycle of violence, cognitive distortions, and surface triggers that lead to violence. Additionally, inmates learn the role that alcohol and drugs play in domestic violence.

GED and Other Education

Instruction is offered in English as a second language, adult basic education, and General Education Development (GED) test preparation. When the inmates are appropriately prepared for testing, Arapahoe County provides a certificate for free off-site GED testing.

Health Information Classes

Health information classes offer comprehensive education on birth control, sexually transmitted infections, prevention of STI’s, availability of resources, and access to care upon an inmate’s release.

Jail-Based Behavioral Services Program

Addresses substance abuse, mental health issues, criminal thinking, with the goal of reducing recidivism.

Religious Services

A full-time chaplain conducts weekly religious services, supplies religious materials upon request, and meets with individual inmates for counseling, encouragement, and prayer.

Pre-Release Job Skills Workshops

Available for inmates who have three months or less remaining on their sentence. The primary goal of this program is to provide inmates with necessary skills to assist them in finding and retaining employment after their release.

Various topics explored during the workshops include Job Values and Interests; Barriers to Employment; Preparing Resumes and the Job Application Process; and Keeping the Job.
